During the two day exercise, two identical living rooms a bedroom and a kitchen were burned. Video and temperature readings were collected from all four rooms to allow attendees to see first hand the properties of various fires in different settings. Ignitable fluids in a 'living room", a grease fire in a "kitchen" and a space heater fire in a "bedroom" provided realistic environments for training and classroom discussion. Cooper and Boone conducted both open field and structural searches while demonstrating the importance of trusting the dog's nose during the investigative process.
